Landhuis Groot Santa Martha (country house) is located in a small area on the hills of Soto. Landhuis Groot Santa Martha is one of the oldest country houses on Curaçao. It was built in 1675 and was one of the first sugar factories in Curaçao.

Landhuis Groot Santa Martha also exported 90% of the salt in Curaçao to the United States and the Netherlands.

The hard work was done by the slaves who were imported to work on the plantations here in Curaçao. The plantation of Landhuis Groot Santa Martha measures more than 554 hectares.

In addition to sugar and salt, livestock was also a major source of income for Groot Santa Martha country house. The architecture of the mansion is very unique.

The country house Groot Santa Martha wears many stories about the Curaçao culture, slave trade and food export. The country house is also very nice for children to visit.

You can have a guided tour by our locals through the plantation and the museum. Afterwards children can sculpture their own Curaçao souvenir from clay.

Opening hours

Grand Santa Martha country house is open from Monday to Friday from 8 am - 4 pm.

On Saturdays and Sundays they are open from 10 am to 5 pm.
